IRON MAN 3 comes tomorrow. That’s not news, but Tony Stark is about to take over Hollywood once again, and Marvel is looking to continue its reign, with Phase 2 of its cinematic expansion. Kevin Feige got to talking to EW about each of the next five films, including the first film in Phase 3 (that’d be ANT-MAN), and along with that, came a new image from THOR: THE DARK WORLD and new concept art from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Read on for the litany of fun and a bunch of quotes from the producer extraordinaire Feige.
Before delving into specific films, Feige outlines Marvel’s expansion: “There are things in [Iron Man 3], in the next Thor movie, and particularly in the next Cap movie that will drastically change the landscape between Avengers and Avengers 2…One of the amazing things in our little Marvel Studios sandbox is that filmmakers are inheriting other filmmakers’ solutions, other filmmakers’ expectations.”

In the sequel, Thor is spending a lot more time in Asgard, and other realms, music to my nerdtastic ears. He’s bringing Jane Foster along with him.
Thor’s issue: “I would say there’s a question of what happens when you’re now seemingly ready for something, but don’t necessarily want it anymore…That’s part of his internal struggle.”
Thor ain’t perfect: “Tony Stark wasn’t perfect at the end of Iron Man 1, and I don’t think Thor is perfect at the end of Thor 1 – particularly in his relationship with his brother, considering what he went through in Avengers.”
On director Alan Taylor: “Alan is bringing a grittier, more visceral, more textured patina to the designs of the worlds, and to Asgard in particular…It’s less to chase either Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings – because you’re not going to catch up. But part of the fun of Thor over the other characters is he doesn’t have to stay on Earth. We visit a few of the other realms in this new movie.”
Alan Taylor’s THOR: THE DARK WORLD stars Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins. It’s opening November 8th. NEXT UP: Cap.
